A New Year

A New Year

“And now we welcome the new year.
Full of things that have never been.”
— Rainer Maria Rilke

New Year’s Day always feel a bit artificial and commercial, and a different energy than, say, the month of September or one’s “solar return” (birthday). Even the March equinox feels more like a new year than the one in January, but there is still a feeling of newness and the hope that comes from the possibility of new (or long-time) dreams coming to fruition, maybe because there is a collective awareness of a new year.

I don’t have resolutions, but it’s still worth it for me to think about what I would like to see in 2025, and I allow myself to change these as the year progress. I try to keep it simple - and a little on the easy side!

So here are some of my “New Year’s Resolutions”:

  • Write more (and write more and edit less/later)

  • Write an outline for an ebook

  • Take up a more formal exercise/mode of movement (Qi Gong)

  • Continue to: go to bed early (9:30pm), no technology at 9pm (or use blue light-blocking glasses, if needed), and juice daily.

  • Talk to a higher power daily (“If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough. - Meister Eckhart.”)

  • Bring my knowledge to the public in some way via teaching/mentorship

  • Take a formal class on a new skill

  • Join a “club” for social and professional reasons (book club, food/nature club)

  • Compliment others regularly

It felt good to write this down! I will be editing this post as my goals change throughout the year :)
